Edward Albee (who attended the opening night performance in São Paulo) is the Pulitzer Prize-winning author of such plays as Who’s Afraid of Virginia Wolf? Giane and Marília Gabriela had seen a performance of A Peça Sobre o Bebê while they were in New York a few years previously and had loved the play so much that they decided to bring it to Brazil someday.

Ana from Brazil was lucky enough to see Giane perfrom in A Peça Sobre o Bebê on two consecutive days, Saturday, September 6 and Sunday, September 7, 2003. Not only that, she got to speak to him both nights! Here’s Ana’s review of the play:

It was wonderful to see Giane on stage!

The play A Peça Sobre o Bebê has two distinct story lines: a comedy part and a drama part. There are two couples. The young couple is played by Giane and Simone Spoladore. The mature couple is played by Marília Gabriela and Ewerton de Castro. Almost all funny lines are [given to] the mature couple, and the dramatic scenes are performed by Giane and Simone.

At the beginning of the play, Giane’s character thinks he is the luckiest man on earth. He has the woman he loves and they just had a baby. They couldn’t be happier. But then comes along this older couple, and all hell breaks loose.

Giane, by the way, is great! He is becoming a very [gifted] young actor! Better each time! It is virtually impossible to NOT get your eyes misty while watching Giane cry as the young man he plays suffers his loss. You can feel the anguish he is going through. As his tears rolls down his face, you find it hard to not cry yourself. Very good performance from Giane!

While Ana spoke to Giane on the first night, Saturday, she told him about Hussy and Fann, his American fans and the wembasters of this site, and asked him to sign his autograph for us! Click here to see our autographs!
